What does your role involve?
My role involves leading the Electronics buying team to develop and implement successful merchandise strategies for our Powerhouse, Dick Smith Electronics and Tandy stores. There are several components in developing effective merchandise strategies for our stores - range planning, setting pricing, promotional programs, in store merchandise plans and inventory management.

What are some of the key skills needed to do your job effectively?
The key skills required in my role are:

  • Analytical & Problem solving.

What are some of the rewarding challenges involved in getting your job done?
One of the most rewarding aspects of my role is leading and coaching a buying team in developing and implementing successful merchandise strategies so we deliver on key business performance indicators. Furthermore, the Consumer Electronics division is a dynamic environment to work in as it's rapidly changing and evolving.

How has your career at Dick Smith Electronics evolved?
I joined Dick Smith Electronics in 1999 and over this period I have worked in most parts of the buying area. I commenced my career as a Merchandise Assistant, progressed to a Buyer and then to my current role as Merchandise Manager.

Has there been a particular highlight of your career so far?
Firstly, working as part of a successful team delivering market leading growth has been a key highlight. Secondly, being recognised as Dick Smith Electronics Buyer of the Year in both 2004 and 2005 is a memorable achievement in my career.

How do you spend your time outside of work?
Outside of work I enjoy catching up with family and friends. I also enjoy travelling & skiing.
