Woolworths is committed to professional development. This has seen us become the largest employer of trainees and apprentices in Australia. In the Woolworths Supermarket division you can gain a nationally recognised trade qualification in bakery and earn while you learn.

Apprenticeships are completed over three or four years through a combination of on the job training within a Woolworths Supermarket and off the job training at your local TAFE college. An apprenticeship in bakery with Woolworths is for those who would like to pursue a career with Woolworths as a Baker, or for those looking to further their retail careers by gaining a trade qualification.

Along the way, you'll get the chance to work with experienced bakers and gain valuable experience in all aspects of working in the Meat or Bakery Department.

As an apprentice baker you will be trained in areas such as:

  • Food safety and sanitation
  • Baking bread
  • Time management and using resources effectively

At the completion of your apprenticeship you will be a qualified baker. A Woolworths bakery apprenticeship also prepares you for further advancement with us. This could include positions such as Supermarket Bakery Manager or other management positions, such as Store Manager.

You can enquire about apprenticeships at your local Woolworths or Safeway store or keep an eye out for advertisements either on this website or in stores.  If you are a current employee you should discuss these opportunities with your Store Manager and HR Specialist.

The Fastrack Programs to Management and Leadership have been developed specifically for our employees in operations (Stores and Distribution Centres) and aims to build skilled retailers with a focus on diversity of experience and thinking across multiple brands early in their careers. The emphasis is on identifying and developing talent for future management and leadership roles. This program is designed to give the individual ownership of his or her career.

Applications are open to all Woolworths Limited employees in Australia and New Zealand, with employees either nominating themselves for the program, or being nominated by their managers. Successful applicants are chosen based on their capability and motivation to be our future store managers, site managers, area managers and beyond.

All participants have access to a one-on-one coaching/mentoring relationship with a Fastrack Coach who is currently a leader within Woolworths.
